A first-half Mohamed Salah finish was all it took for Liverpool to come away from West Yorkshire with three points.
Jurgen Klopp made three changes to the side that drew with Manchester City before the international break.
Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge came in for their first league starts of the season, with Xherdan Shaqiri also coming into the starting eleven.
Roberto Firmino and Gini Wijnaldum dropped to the bench, whilst Sadio Mane missed out completely following surgery on a hand injury during the week.
As for Huddersfield, they made just one change to the side that previously drew away at Burnley, with Florent Hadergjonaj replacing Rajiv van La Parra.
Both teams struggled to find their feet in the early exchanges of the game, however it was the feet of Alisson that nearly gifted the Terriers an opening.
Virgil van Dijk’s backpass saw the ‘keeper dwindle on the ball before Laurent Depoitre closed him down at pace. Luckily for Alisson though his clearance ricocheted off the Belgian and out for a goal kick, which very much prevented what would’ve been a replica of his Leicester City blunder.
The Reds had struggled to create much in the opening quarter of the game, but that all changed when Mo Salah managed to give the visitors the lead in the twenty-fourth minute.
Xherdan Shaqiri’s neat turn saw him run at Huddersfield’s back line before slipping the Egyptian in on goal and he finished past Jonas Lossl to claim his third goal of the campaign.
David Wagner’s men responded well to going behind and they came agonisingly close to equalling the scoring.
Jonathan Hogg picked up the ball on the edge of the box and then fired a ferocious strike against the woodwork. It’s fair to say Alisson was nowhere near the Huddersfield skipper’s effort.
Huddersfield then came close once again and this one was from even further out. Philip Biling showed superb technique to whip a powerful free-kick over the Liverpool wall, however the German’s hit curled inches wide.
The home side then managed to finally get the ball in the back of the net but unfortunately for them it was correctly ruled offside. A header over the Reds back line sent Alex Pritchard clear and he finished cleverly past Alisson, only for the linesman’s flag to be raised.
Despite leading at the break, Jurgen Klopp’s team had struggled to get out of second gear similarly to most of their performances this season. The midfield had been completely overrun and most counter-attacking scenarios led to nothing.
The defence had all done well as a whole in the opening forty-five, but I’d dread to think where Liverpool would be without Virgil van Dijk.
Just six minutes after the restart, Liverpool were dealt with yet another injury problem to add to their growing list. Jordan Henderson came off with a hamstring injury and Gini Wijnaldum came on in his place.
The Terriers really didn’t look like a team struggling with confidence and they started the second-half very positively. Hadergjonaj’s cross found the run of Depoitre but his header towards goal was dealt with easily by Alisson.
Liverpool then had a chance to kill the game off just after the hour-mark. Daniel Sturridge’s exquisite pass sent Salah through however the current PFA Player of the Year dragged his shot miserably wide of the Huddersfield goal.
Despite an unconvincing performance, Jurgen Klopp’s men managed to see the victory out. Luckily for them Huddersfield lacked penetration in front of goal but on the balance of play they probably deserved at least a point.
Nevertheless, the three points takes the Reds back to joint-top of the Premier League along with Manchester City who have a superior goal difference.
As for David Wagner’s side, they sit slumped in nineteenth, with their winless start to the campaign showing no signs of coming to a halt.
